March 26 – April 8 What if your value was truly valued?
There once was a goose that laid Golden Eggs. A local farmer saw the amazing golden eggs and wanted them. One day he lured the goose to his farm and caged it up in a magnificent new place. Food was catered in three times a day and water delivered in bottles. A team of janitors cleaned the nest that had a treadmill nearby for exercise. At first the goose seemed happy and laid a golden egg every week, then every two weeks. Soon, nicely ensconced in its gilded cage with everything handed to it, the goose just stopped laying eggs altogether.
The moral of the story: Few farmers know what makes a goose happy and productive. Listen to the goose and let it roam free. The goose will find what it needs to lay its precious golden eggs.
Few employers really know what makes their people tick. One person’s motivation is rarelyjust likethe next person’s. The same often goes for employees. Set on a well-defined path from the day you get your first job, your personal productivity choices are rarely discovered, let alone developed. It’s the old story of you don’t know what you don’t know, or is it?
Somewhere, buried beneath layers of training and inside the borders of those people, place and time boxes is your true self. No matter how comfortable or gilded your workplace may be, you still need to pry open the bars of the glittering cage to get to your core. Freed from conventional constraints and artificial guidelines, you can find what makes you truly happy and productive. Then, like the special goose, you, too, can lay lots of precious golden eggs.
Some years, I hate the holidays. So this year I’m applying my own advice and looking at my abc’s of different for new options and ideas. Here are some different various approaches I came up with for holiday survival under the words for the letters d, f, g, I and m.

fractals: Find good will patternsof the past year, then repeat and scale them throughout these holiday times and the new year.
golden eggs: Allow all the geese that lay within your realm to lay their eggs unencumbered by yours or other’s failures of the past and expectations of the future so they will truly be golden gifts of hope.
imperfection: Know somewhere in your desire for the perfect holiday can be found beautiful imperfections that, like shining ornaments on the tree, will reflect the true beauty of the season.
moving sidewalks: Employ the positive sentiments of the season as your moving sidewalk assists to help you create your part of peace onearth and best wishes for the new year!
Ok gals. What’s going on? Condemning another successful woman, this instance about her book before it’s even published!? What’s the rationalization this time? Oh yeah, she’s ‘uppity.’ Shame on you! Why do women do this!? Unfortunately, I do know. Because too many women are still not emancipated, as in, free from believing, and then using, their own stereotypes against themselves. Here’s how it goes. Continue reading →
1st – There was a fire in our neighborhood.
2nd – I came home from the fire around 8:00 pm to find PG&E digging a hole in the yard across the street.
Help helps, even if it’s small, simple, easy … do help.
The Fire: As I was watching the scene, a woman approached and, as she got closer, I could see a cut on her forehead that was still bleeding. She appeared a bit dazed and seemingly unaware of this. These events are always chaotic. I counted around twelve fire trucks and rescue vehicles. Continue reading →
Do work different in new work places. ThredUP‘s co-founder and CEO, James Reinhart talks about a way he uses working in multiple places to his company’s advantage, treating his people like the Golden Eggs they are. The bottom line for him – give your people a place break and they can be more productive.
“ThredUP co-founder and CEO says prohibiting his employees from coming into work one day a week allows his team to think big picture, and increases productivity. (Just make sure that work from home day isn’t Friday).”
